İNCİROVASI AİR BASE
The city of Altınkent had a small airfield used by the Ottoman Armed Forces, which was named İncirovası Airfield because of the many figs around the airport. In 1933, the Turkish State Airlines started its flights to İncirovası Airfield. However, night flights were not possible due to technical deficiencies and large planes could not land on the runway. With the increasing need, plans to allocate İncirovası Airfield to civil flights were made in the early 1960s and the surrounding lands were expropriated. With the opening of the new airport, Turkish Air Force had moved its base.
Turkish Air Force had returned to the airport in the 2000s, with several jets being based there and the territory got renamed İncirovası Airfield again. By the 2010, Altınkent International Airport had constructed a new passenger and cargo terminal. The original airport platforms were also handed over to the Air Force, thus adding capacity for transport and VIP aircraft.
